Book Chapter Review
Book title: Make time
Book chapter: Highlight Tactics
Time is precious. We only live once on this earth. We have an equal amount of time regardless of your age or social status. It is fair. Every day we have 24 hours. At the end of the day, time is flowing away and you can’t save it. Have you sit down and reflect on what have you done today? Have you lived yourself to the fullest? Reflection can make us realize how we spend our time. We can choose to spend your time wisely or let the time go way away quietly. A good and meaningful life is created if the time is spending wisely. Here are the tips on how to optimize your life every day.
Firstly,
you can create a highlight each day. The highlight is the most important task
on that day. We tend to procrastinate the important task because sometimes we
lack of motivation to do it. Instead of focusing on the goal, try to focus on
the accomplishment that is satisfying and important. Focus on the things that
matter to you. Prioritize your task and schedule down on your calendar.
A
good highlight is a highlight that fulfills three criteria. You can set your
highlight for each day according to you what you want to achieve or feel at the
end of the day. The first criterion is urgency. Try to think about the most
important task you want to complete each day.
Some task is time-sensitive and it is necessary to complete today. This
can prevent us from burnout because you can complete the task before the
deadline.
Second
criterion is satisfaction. At the end of the day, ask yourself, which highlight
will bring the most satisfaction? Think about a task that can fulfill your
meaning and value. You will feel energized if you are doing the task that you
have the intention to do it. For example, I write a blog because I want to
share my knowledge with the people. I am feeling satisfied if my blog can help
people to improve their life. My life is meaningful if I can contribute my
knowledge to the society. A meaningful life is a life that lives for others.
Third
criterion is joy. Find out the task you want to do because you like to do it.
It can be your hobbies, friends gathering, or other events that can make you
happy. The joyful highlight may look like a waste of time to others but not to us. You
only waste your time if you are not intentional about how you spend it. Joy
highlights can recharge your brain and body after you have spent most of your
energy on the task. Focus on the moment when you doing the joyful highlight.
Being grateful because you have the chance to spend your time that made you
happy. For example, I like dancing. I am feeling energized after I have finished
my dance. Dancing makes me happy because it is my hobby.
Lastly,
remember the USJ when you want to create the highlight for each day. U
is urgency, S is satisfaction and J is joy. A good highlight is an event that
can fulfill one of these criteria. Bear
in mind that we are only live once. Use your time wisely and spend time on the
people and activities that are matter to you.
