It is happy, satisfied and mixture of the positive emotions! right? Do you want to have more of these nice feelings? It is very simple! The answer is to become a great teacher!
Nowadays, knowledge is updated at a very fast pace. Lifelong learning become more essential at today society. Everyone needs to keep learning in order to keep in pace with society.. Although knowledge can be acquired everywhere in this digital age, most the people don't know how to bring knowledge to life. Therefore, we can teach other people who demand our knowledge. Teaching is the way of growing ourselves because we explain our understanding in our own words! It strengthens our understanding towards a particular topic. It can also cultivate the learning spirit around us.
Let me share with you three tips to become a great teacher. The first way is to facilitate. Facilitation is a way of engaging in learning and development with others. Facilitate enables us to understand other learning difficulties and we can give them tips and advice to guide them. Facilitate lets other aware of their learning process so they can make adjustments and corrections. It enhances the learning process. For example, I am given a chance to teach dance steps in Zumba class at my company. Before the class, I have watched the dancing video, and learn dance steps. After that , I am practicing so hard to get myself ready for the class During class, I teach them step by step. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 .If they can't follow the steps, I will go beside them and facilitate them to dance. I will correct them based on their current dance steps. They feel happy and give me a smile after my guidance. They are motivated to keep trying. I feel happy too when I see them enjoy dancing.
The Second way is to connect.Connect with the learners and motivate them. Understand their feelings when they are learning. If they achieve small achievements, give them a smile,clap and tell them they can learn new things! If they are tired and lose focus, stay with them. Accompany them in their learning journey. Bring them towards the correct path until they achieve a milestone that is unique to them! We try our best to help them by expanding our love capacity.
When I was young, I was taking the challenge to become a primary school teacher while I was waiting for the STPM results. I was teaching standard 4 chinese language. In the beginning, I was worried that students are naughty and difficult to teach. When I was free, I will have a personal talk with the student to understand more about them. Maybe was their hobby, their family life and their favourite items. I relate it to my interest and start a beautiful conversation. When I saw Mandy is doing her origami, I say, Mandy, your origami was very cute! May I know what is this? She says , Thank you Teacher ! It is baymax! The conversation continues with full of excitement ! After a few weeks, the students can finish their homework and perform their duty to clean the class without reminders. Why?A beautiful connection is formed between me and them. I feel so touched. A memorable moment is captured and stored in my memory. Therefore, it shows that connection is powerful in teaching!
Third way is to build expertise. We have to develop our specialized knowledge skills essential to our role. We must be well equipped with skills before teaching others. We always continue so trive for the best in learning and improve continously based on constructive feedback. For example , I am a toastmaster member. I can become a mentor to grow other members on public speaking. To become a good mentor, I should always improve my communication and public speaking skills so I can guide my mentee well ! For example , I guide members to complete the assignment speech by sharing my speech crafting tips!
Facilitate , connect and build expertise are the elements of a great educator. We must always practice the skills and apply them in our daily life. We can start from the people around us. In the company, you can connect with your colleague , facilitate them when they encounter a problem. If you have children, you can guide them to do their homework and motivate them. If we teach others by applying three elements , it will become a new habit and bring a positive impact into your life! Your beautiful life begins with a small little act as an educator!
