My Solo Trip

Long Christmas and new year holidays are just over! Most people take this opportunity to travel. Travelling is a way to make us relax and enjoy ourselves. It can make us understand the culture of other countries and widen our view.  It triggers me to reflect on my last memorable trip. A few months ago, I decided to travel because I want to have a short escape and clear my annual leave. I have accumulated so much leave during a covid pandemic and now is the time to use it!

Airport

I went to Singapore to meet my friends and have a short adventure with them! I stay at my relative house. Before the trip, I do research about the destination and plan the journey,  I made it 4 days 3 nights and have sightseeing, a waterpark adventure, and catching up with friends! On the first day of the trip, I pack my luggage and depart to Penang airport. I was so excited because I can board the plane after two years. After 1 hour and 15 minutes, I arrived at Singapore Changi Airport safe and sound!  The first place I was going to visit was Jewel Changi Airport. Jewel Changi Airport is so beautiful especially the garden inside the mall. There is a beautiful fountain in the middle of the garden! I was amazed at the garden of Changi Airport! After that,  I departed from terminal 4 to terminal 3 by bus because the MRT station was located at terminal 3. I inform my uncle I will arrive at Dover station in 30 minutes.

After arriving at terminal 3, I walked towards MRT station and prepared to purchase a ticket to Dover station. However, I realize that the MRT ticketing machine is out of service! I don't have the pass card for MRT and the bus because my uncle has it. I don't have the pass card and ticket, what should I do? I start to panic.  Instead of buying a new pass, I step up my comfort zone to ask the people around me. When I saw a pretty lady preparing to go into the MRT gate with her family. I asked her. Hey, pretty lady, May I know how to go into the MRT station without a pass? She replied, Ohh! It is very easy! You just need to use a credit card and tap on the card reader! Credit card? Wow, it was so amazing! So I try to tap my credit card on the reader! Tik tik! Wow, it works. I thank her and we wait for the MRT. When the MRT arrives, we walked into MRT together.

Next, I initiate a conversation with her.  I asked about her background. She mentions that she is from Shenzhen, China. The purpose of coming to Singapore because she wants to send her children back to international school! She had two daughters and they are adorable! I am proud of her because she invests in her children's future.  Children deserve a better opportunity for education. She also shares about the culture of China with me! She was amazed because she just realized Malaysian Chinese can speak Chinese fluently. I have understood more about her living life through this conversation.

After 30 minutes, finally I arrived at Dover station. I say goodbye to her and proceed to pick up the area to wait for my uncle. When I want to call my uncle, I realized that my WhatsApp call is not working. Why? My maxis roaming service is not working. I fail to activate it! I start to panic because I not sure where is the car pick-up area! I can only see the bus stop after walking from the MRT station. I get up the courage and ask the local guy where is the car pick-up area.  He points to the front direction which is only 5 minute'sminute walk from the current station. I am so grateful and walk to the station.  After 10 minutes, my uncle arrives and I go back with him. It marks the beginning of my journey.

In this journey.  I have gained a new experience. The first experience is that I stepped up my comfort zone and talked to people. Instead of worrying too much, I get up my courage and ask for help from others. Next, I also understand the people live from the conversation. I learn how to communicate with China ladies when I was in the MRT. Fellow toastmasters and guests. if you plan your solo trip, apply what you have learned in Toastmasters and start to communicate with people from another country. They will offer you help when needed and share with you about life experiences. It can widen our view and grow our wisdom. Thank you!
